Cambridge Hindu Kush
The expedition travelled overland from the UK, arriving in Kabul and engaging the services of Noor Mohammed who made their arrangeemnts for Nuristan. They travelled from Kabul to Bargernatal where a two-day hike with porters brought them to their base camp in the Panajir meadows. Here they conducted a programme of scientific research, examining rock glaciers, weathering and the plant life of a recently deglaciated meadow. The expedition also made the first ascent of Corner Peak (4900m) and established a number of new routes on other mountains in the area, including Koh-I-Makhrut (5710m) and Koh-I-Chrebek (6290m).
In 2019, observations from this expedition were used in the publication of the research paper 'Glacier–rock glacier interactions in the eastern Hindu Kush, Nuristan, Afghanistan [35.92,71.13] in the period 1976–2019.' The paper can be read here: https://tinyurl.com/rx4aws44
