Steenstrups East Greenland 1971

This expedition, run in collaboration with The University of London Graduate Mountaineering Club sailed from the UK to the east coast of Greenland in a restored fishing vessel. They arrived at their primary objective of Ingolfsfjaeld to learn that a Croatian Party had just made the first ascent of the peak via the northeast ridge. They therefore elected to tackle the mountain from the south, but were forced to abandon their attempt. They then travlled north to the Steenstrups area around Tasilaq where they made ascents of several peaks, including Janbjerg, Breubjerg and Wenbjerg and undertook some skiing. The expedition also conducted botanical and ornithological surveys, including the collection of botanical samples.
