Scot-Slovak South Greenland Expedition 2024

This team of four were successful in establishing two new lines on Maujit Qaqarssuasia, commonly referred to as 'The Thumbnail'. The first, Mussels for Tea, Packrafts in the Sea (1350m, E6 6b (7b)) on the cliff's east face, was named in reference to both their diet and the loss of their watercraft in a storm. It was climbed over four days in a mixture of capsule and alpine style, with two alternative finishes from the half-height ledge. The second, Texture Like Sun (800m, E3 5c (6b+)) climbed the south headwall of Maujit Qorqarssasia East, the first known ascent of this face. In addition to these routes, the team climbed several new lines (between the grades of E2 and E5) on Pamiagdluk island, including the first ascent of 'The Spire of the Northern Fire'. Their report notes significant potential for new routes in the area despite numerous past expeditions. In particular, The Thumbnail Face boasts just 5 known routes across its 2km width.
