Irish K2
This team planned to start by climbing Broad Peak (8,047m), both as an objective in its own right and to assist in acclimatisation, before attempting the Abruzzi Ridge on K2 (8,611m). Cooper was successful on the former peak, becoming the first Irishman to climb it, with Rea turning back some 200m from the top. Shortly afterwards, the weather broke, continuous rain and snow preventing an attempt on K2. Significantly, this season no one reached its summit.
