Footsteps 55
This team of four chose to visit the Jugal Himal in recognition of the Ladies Scottish Expedition of 1955, the first all-women expedition team to visit the Himalaya. Settling on an unclimbed peak of ~6,200m, they initially recced a route from the peak's northern side, approaching via the Jugal glacier, but decided that this appeared too challenging for the group. Instead they chose to make an attempt from the south, aiming to access the unclimbed peak via the approach slopes of Jugal V and an adjoining ridge. Crowsley, Dowland and Holgate set out on the morning of 22 April, reaching a height of 5,500m, before a closing weather window and variable snowpack forced a retreat.
