British Services Gimmigela 1997
When this expedition was first proposed, Gimmigela, 7,350m, (aka 'The Twins') in the NE corner of Nepal had never been climbed. It was therefore a huge disappointment that it received two ascents by Japanese climbers whilst the present trip was being planned. Nevertheless they carried on, with the hope of making the first British ascent by the SW Ridge, which would be a new route. In this they were successful, with Lane and Peacock reaching the summit on 10 May followed two days later by Atkins, Foden, Magowan and Wilson.
