Supporting the exploratory

The Joint British Army Mountaineering Association and Royal Nepalese Army Expedition

This expedition was set up as a form of preparation for a 1976 attempt on Everest, with the aim of climbing Nuptse to test equipment and supplies for use on Everest and to develop a team for that venture. The firsdt attempt on the summit ended in disaster when Owens and Summerton were killed in an apparent fall. During the evacuation of the mountain in preparation for a second summit push, Brister and Pasang were also killed and, this having been confirmed, the expedition was abandoned.
