British Karst Research Expedition to the Himalaya 1970
The expedition drove overland from the UK in a converted fire engine, stopping first in Kashmir where they conducted a fruitless investigation of the Sind Valley, before relocating to Kukarnag. Here they spent a week engaged in zoological and geographic research before moving on towards Nepal. After crossing the border, they learned of damage to the local roads which forced them to fly to Pokhara. From here they travelled to Tukche where they investigated several leads for cave systems, including that mentioned by Maurice Herzog in his account of the first ascent of Annapurna. Returning to Pokhara, they investiagted the Harpan river sink, surveying a significant distance of unexplored cave and discovering a new entrance.
