The British Services Everest Expedition 1988

This very large party of 36 officers and men approached Everest by the Rongbuk glacier, intending to climb the mountain by the west ridge. They made three bids for the summit, one group of two reaching c8,600m, the other climbers, 25 in all, turning back at c7,800m after the crux of the Hornbein Couloir.
