British Dhaulagiri IV Expedition 1973
The expedition got off to a poor start with delays to the unloading of the party's bags from the transport ship. An advance pteam was sent on ahead, but McHardy, who had suffered following a climbing accident some years earlier, became extremely unwell and had to be evacuated back to England. The late arriving stores were eventually moved to base camp by helicopter. A series of camps werepushed up through the icefall and multiple attempts were made on the summit to no avail. Tragically, during the descent from one of these attempts, Dewison fell and was killed, his body buried on the mountain.
