Fowler and Saunders Make First Ascent of Yawash Sar (6258m)

Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders have succeeded in making the first ascent of Yawash Sar (6258m) in the Pakistani Karakoram.

The pair climbed in alpine style, reaching the summit via a route on the mountain's northwest face (pictured above) on the 14th September.

The peak had been attempted previously by a 2022 MEF expedition who climbed from the south.

Fowler and Saunders first went on expedition together in 1987 when they made the first ascent of the Golden Pillar of Spantik (7027m). That expedition also received an MEF grant and we are extremely proud to still be supporting the pair's groundbreaking endeavours nearly 40 years later.
