Aguja Nevada III South Face and Ranrapalca South-West Face
Encountering a successful team returning from their planned objective, the south face of Nevado de Carás I, this pair turned their attentiuon instead to the south face of the Aguja Nevado III (5720m). Despite an unplanned bivouac and challenging conditions which required tunneling to the summit, they were successful, descending via the south-west face. Their next objective was the southwest face of Ranrapalca. Here again they were successful in spite of the rock fall, hard, black ice and threatening séracs they encountered. They descended via the west ridge which proved equally as challenging as the ascent.
