Altar of the Gods - Patagonia Winter 1999
This optimistic team had a theory that, although obviously colder, the weather in Patagonia would be more settled in winter than in summer. Fortunately, this proved to be more or less true, and they achieved the first winter ascents of Aguja Poincenot, 3,036m (via the Whillans Route) and Aguja Guillaumet, 2,539m (via the Amy Couloir). An attempt on the Canaletto route on Fitzroy, 3,408m, had to be aborted 150m below the summit due to a major storm, which also wiped out their base camp.
